As we said in the last newsletter, the Coronavirus has scared a lot of people. However, there is a lot of speculations and untruths floating around on the media. Your webmaster received two emails about "Cleansing Cloths" which will cure us (a cost of 9.95 each, but wait order two...). Don't fall for scams. As stated in the last newsletter, there are two important steps that  you can take to prevent catching or spreading the virus.

1) Frequent hand washing is important. One public health official stated that hand washing could stop 50% of all cases.

2) Social distancing is another important step. Try to keep at least 6 feet between you and other people when in lines or crowds. If you are retired or in the most susceptible age group like many of us, stay at home. If you have to go out for supplies, go at time when the crowds are smaller. Some stores have instituted "senior" times. The Governors of many states have ordered that people over the age of 70 stay indoors except for necessary travel such as doctors and food.

The problems with this virus is that it is very contagious.  And, since it is a new virus, people don't have any natural immunity. This is not a new situation however. Smallpox, polio, and measles are other types of very contagious viral diseases that we have conquered over the years. Within the last hour, as we write this, there is a new report out on the effectiveness of two medicines used together that reduce the effect of the disease. We will get through this.
